When did you first try Lisp seriously, and which Lisp family member was it?
December 2004, Common Lisp
What led you to try Lisp?I was looking for a better general purpose language after I tried Pascal, Assembler, C, C++, VB, Perl, Java, PHP within the period of 12 years. Back then I considered C++ more expensive to develop in than Pascal (in terms of effort). VB was too limited and too Microsoft. Perl was not enough OO. Although object-oriented, Java was to Perl like C++ was to Pacsal. PHP was very limmited to a wrong approach in the web development. Found Python, considered it for a few months and then turned to Lisp. For some reason I have been drown to Lisp since year 2000 after being frustrated from pair review of Perl code for a couple of months as part of my job. Since 2004 Lisp is The Chosen One and I am happy with it.
How far have you gotten in your study of Lisp?I am comfortable developing in Lisp. I can do with it everything I can do with the other languages I know. Perhaps even more. Macroses and evaluation is something I need to dig deeper in.
What do you think of Lisp so far?Although it is not perfect, it is the best programming language on Earth.
I quit my day job and started a firm. I'm currently working on my own project. Meanwhile I am looking for opportunities.
